5 Goals You Need to Set for 2021

At the beginning of each year my husband and I set our goals. This has really helped us with staying on track with our goals and with keeping each other accountable for what we wanted to achieve throughout the year. I’ve made a list of 5 goals that everyone should try to achieve in 2021 that could beneficial to your overall well being!

  1. Self-love

Everyone could use a little more self-love! Cherishing yourself is the best way to show others that you deserve respect. So many times I have found myself pouring love into others but not doing that for myself. It left me feeling burnt out, and then I was no longer able to be there for those I care for. Self-love can just be reading a book or baking cookies. Just do something you love and do it just for you!

2. Get Active

I can definitely say that I was stagnant most of the year. I spent most of my days indoors and feeling sluggish. The pandemic was a great excuse for me to not be active, but it was taking a toll on me. Mentally and physically I was drained. Getting back active gave me the boost that I needed. Whether you do light stretches in your room, go walking around your neighborhood, do burpees in your backyard or go to the gym— get active! Your body will thank you for it!

3. Rest

Resting is not something that most people in the U.S. like to do. We praise people who work themselves to death. Honestly, I don’t see what’s so great about being overworked and overly tired. We all need a day to rest and unplug from our busy schedules. No matter who you are or what you do, you need proper rest! Find a day that fits into your busy schedule and just unplug. If it’s work emails or schoolwork that is constantly grabbing your attention, then just schedule a day to completely unplug from your computer. Do things that bring you joy and don’t worry about your stressors for 24 hours. This may not be as easy as I’m making it sound, but if you make this a routine then having a rest day will eventually be natural to you.

4. Respect yourself and your time

Ain’t nobody got time for mess in 2021! LOL. Ok, but seriously your time is valuable. Don’t waste your time investing in the wrong relationships or chasing the wrong things in life. Time is one thing that you can never get back. Know your worth and find people who value it. I have previously spent so much time watering the wrong plants in my life. I gave time and attention to people and things that did not deserve it. I allowed myself to not be respected and it completely wrecked me. Do better for yourself and you will be glad you did so.

5. Strengthen Your Community.

When I say “community” I do not mean the people who just live in your city, although that is important too. I’m talking about the people you call on your bad days. Your friends and family– your besties. Tell those people you love them and invest in those relationships. Having a strong community of people you confide in, that lift you up and challenge you to do better is how you will succeed. I have several people that I know I can always call on if I need them and I am eternally grateful for them. Genuine and healthy relationships are really what make this life so amazing. If you can, spend as much time as possible with your village and and make sure they know you are there for them.
